Rail Anchors

Fair Rail Anchors have been in regular use since 1906. The Improved Fair unique design is made of a special T-shaped spring steel, forged and heat treated for uniform strength and lasting service. Improved Fair Rail Anchors are a "drive-on" design that offers the following benefits:

  • Provide full rail base contact

  • Distribute creeping loads evenly

  • Eliminate sleeper chewing and climbing

  • Deliver largest sleeper bearing area

Improved Fair Rail Anchors are available for almost any rail size and can be used for heavy duty and challenging installations.

Features

  • Overdrive stop - Assures proper application every time, by either manual or machine application. Platform provides full rail base contact. Improved Fair Anchors are the only anchor to eliminate flex in frozen ballast rail “pumping” conditions.

  • Tie Bearing Area - Provides a greater contact area than any other design and reduces wood fiber crushing prolonging sleeper life.

  • Jaw Grip - The vice-like action on rail base resists rail movement on average more than any other drive-on anchor. Provides superior holding power with no appreciable loss after ten re-applications to the rail.

Rail Separation

Our Rail Cap and Weld Repair Joint Bar are designed to perform unique roles to keep traffic moving.

Rail Cap

The Rail Cap allows trains to travel over broken rails with up to 5 inches of separation at a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour. The patent-pending design easily installs in minutes, allowing trains to keep their schedule until a repair crew can arrive. The Rail Cap can be installed directly over a tie or between ties at welded joints, rail joints or anywhere separation occurs. It fits rail sizes 80 lb. to 141 lb., with curve wear or overflow up to one inch, in tangent track or curves up to 18 degrees. One person installation without any special tools makes the Rail Cap™ ideal for signal maintainers, engine crews, track maintainers, track inspectors, welding gangs and line gangs. The Rail Cap is a temporary repair and requires visual inspection during train operation.

Weld Repair Joint Bar

Designed for maintaining rail alignment and vertical support in case of field weld failure or a detected rail flaw, the high-strength steel bar includes a forged offset that fits around the weld and holds securely until repairs can be made. This can be installed on most currently used rail sections. It provides excellent head support at pull aparts, and where regulations allow, it can be utilized as a temporary "set and forget" device.

MACK Reversible Switch Point Protectors

Wheel flanges impact very heavy loads against the toe of a switch point. This results in rapid deterioration of the switch point and eventually leads to chipping of the running edge. MACK Switch Point Protectors take the brunt of this impact and divert the wheel flanges from the point. MACK Protectors are made from high quality manganese steel and are reversible when one edge becomes worn. Their use prolongs the life of a switch point by as much as five times. In addition to reducing wear on switch points, MACK Protectors help to prevent derailments due to split switches by helping deflect wheel flanges past any switch that is not completely closed. MACK Reversible Switch Point Protectors are designed for slow speed territory and are ideally suited to yards, industrial loads and private sidings. A maximum speed of 15 mph (25 kph) is advised.

Rail Rollover Protection

This is a low-cost, field-proven solution for preventing low rail rollover in curves experiencing low speed, heavy loads and double stacked car traffic. The rail rollover protection device is designed to withstand high lateral loads yet preserve the floating rail system and is equally effective in preventing high rail rollover in higher speed applications.
